Disappear Here: Series Two

“Disappear Here” is a self-published photography book series by Los Angeles based Film Photographer, Kristin Gallegos. Each bound release highlights a different muse of Kristin’s trying on a new persona and showcases her as the alternative character.

Series One featured model Cora Keegan as The Dancer and Series Two showcases Emily Labowe in the role of The Writer. “Disappear Here: Series Two” is a limited-edition printing of 100 signed and numbered copies. This second book is set in Laurel Canyon in Los Angeles, and was inspired by icons such as Joan Didion, Eve Babitz, and Gloria Steinem, all of whose works remain as relevant today as when they broke ground upon their release. The fictional character Bree Daniels in the 1970 film ‘Klute’ starring Jane Fonda and Maria Wyeth the main character in ‘Play It As It Lays’ (1972) starring Tuesday Weld also informed the aesthetic and character of The Writer. There is a cachet of nuance that can be found in the details of Series Two, such as Joan Didion’s favorite drink and snack while writing and the same belt worn by Jane Fonda in ‘Klute’.

The title of this series is derived from the book Less Than Zero by Bret Easton Ellis and was also the name of Kristin’s first solo photography show in New York City in 2017. The “Disappear Here” book series presents its main characters cinematically. It was Kristin’s intention that a subtle storyline move the viewer forward chronologically through a day in the life of the character in lieu of simply presenting a collection of singular moments.

Kristin’s love of pre-digital cinematography, especially in films of the 60’s & 70’s, inspired her to differentiate these volumes from her previous work, and similarly offers the audience something more than a traditional photo book. Kristin utilizes all of her skills in this book series by not only creative directing and shooting the books, but also wardrobe styling, hair and makeup, and prop and set design. Once again, she has created an entire world of her own for you to disappear into.
